A New Room

John was finally moved from the CCU into a room in the Intermediate Care wing on the same floor. It indicates progress and the need for a little less intensive, round the clock care. He is in a private room with a great view of the air conditioning units. I told him, "What's new? We got our usual parking lot view!" This is our inside joke about the rooms we seemed to be assigned when we took wonderful company trips to great resort hotels.....that was the old days...Invariably, our friends the Hutchins from Medford would get an awesome suite overlooking the pool or the ocean, and we would draw the one with a view of the roof of the front entrance or the parking lot. We just laughed after awhile.
Anyway, today was a day of removing tubes from his chest, catheter, etc. which was not all that fun, but allows him to move around more easily, which is a goal for his treatment. Unfortunately, the nausea keeps hanging on making it difficult for him to want to do anything, eat, or move anywhere. The cute nurse who moved him from CCU to this wing said that now he goes into boot camp! If he can shake the nausea, I think he will really be ready for all of that....breathing exercises, walking to the bathroom in his room and other walking they will have him doing. That would be a big prayer request for him.
A few visitors have dropped by...my brother Kent and sons Grant and Jason, Dave and Karin Davis, and Kathi Marcus. John has had sleepy conversations, but has not felt very peppy to carry on a very long conversation. Kraig, who was working in Portland today, also stopped by a couple of times.
Many thanks for continuing to encourage us, and especially John.
For those of you who are trying to post comments on the blog and having trouble, I tried to do it myself to see if I could figure out how, and I had trouble too. I will ask Jerry to post on this blog some step by step instructions on how to do it, and hope that will help. I read some of the blog comments to John just now, and he really enjoyed that.
Our new nurse Rachett (sp?)...no just kidding..Christine is really very nice...came in just now and said that tomorrow Boot Camp officially begins. He will be taking all meals sitting in the chair...no longer in bed. He will be walking. They will be getting up around 6:00 a.m. and having him move around before breakfast, etc. Wow! I'm glad I'm not staying here! We hope he will have a good night to be in shape for the morning. Thanks again to all.

  1. Well... I'm humbled. I am finally able to post something by using Caroline's whatever-you-need-to-post thingie. Well, I have certainly enjoyed all the humor, love and joy I have been reading on this blog. So thrilled that you're doing so well John. You know... Sarah Catherine was on pain meds after back surgery... and the pain medicine caused so many problems (severe nausea). She was so much better even with the pain... once she was off. I realize back surgery doesn't equal heart surgery. But I can relate to having watch someone you love feel so miserable and out of it. You all take care.... and thanks so much for the blog. What a great way to keep informed without bothering you all with a million calls.

Oh and John ... brace yourself. It sounds like the upcoming days will be similar to our Wellspring Days (which I cherish, but were similar a boot camp)

  2. Mom,
I logged in and changed the settings so that anyone can post a comment. Where it asks to "Comment as" they should choose the "Name/URL" profile. They should then enter their name and email address as the URL (IF they want it shown) or simply leave the URL blank.

  3. Great blogging, Kerr women! Sorry about the drugs. It seems the O'Malley's fall into two groups: (1) puke on drugs and (2) love drugs and beg for more drugs. I am in the latter category since the beginning of colonoscopies. Keep goin', Juan. I will jog with you on the beach at the reunion.

    Love, Cousin Mike

  4. Go John Go! There is a lot of talk about your boot camp starting tomorrow and I am thinking about going for a run myself for solidarity. Maybe I'll jump over some bushes or something to make it really strenuous. :) Seriously now, my prayers for you and that heart of yours continue. You are so loved!

  8. Juan, great that you are getting a new room. Not so great about the nausia. But it does sound like you are so much better. So let the boot camp begin! I get home Wednesday. So I'll see you then or shortly thereafter. Toni

  9. John, Looks like the heavy breathing is about to begin for real. You've had great training for this. Just think of Elizabeth and have a soft heart, soft throat, soft breath, etc. We'll be doing our exercises with you. Hang in there bionic dude. All the Heavy Breathers are taking long slow breaths now. This blog has really been a blessing for those of us so far away. Thanks so much for keeping us in the loop. Love from all the HB's. Gail

I heard from Juli at Pimpollo this morning. They were happy to hear that Juan is making progress. Her message read... "Nosotros vamos a continuar con nuestras oraciones para Juan" We are going to continue with our prayers for John. They are praying for a speedy recovery. All of Pimpollo sends their love and hugs.

    We all love you John!
